Google's AI-powered efforts block 5.1 billion malicious ads amid rising threats

Last year, Google preemptively blocked or removed 5.1 billion ads and restricted 9.1 billion more.

The report comes amidst escalating cyber threats in Kenya, where 1.5 billion threats were detected in the last six months alone.
Alex Rodriguez, Google's General Manager for Ads Safety, highlighted AI's role in swift threat identification and mitigation, preventing harmful content from reaching users.
Notably, Google's updated policies and global enforcement efforts led to a significant reduction in impersonation scams, with over 700,000 scam-related advertiser accounts removed.
Ahead of the 2024 global elections, Google has implemented stringent transparency measures for political ads, removing millions that failed to disclose funding sources.
The tech giant continues to collaborate with regulatory bodies and industry partners through initiatives like the Global Anti-Scam Alliance to stay ahead of evolving threats and safeguard digital integrity.
